The article analyzes the evolution of international human rights law, highlighting the 60th anniversary of the Inter-American Commission and the 50th anniversary of the American Convention. It examines Brazil's increasing use of the inter-American system, both in the Commission and in the Inter-American Court, emphasizing the counter-majoritarian role of these mechanisms in protecting vulnerable groups. It discusses promotional and judicial avenues, their potential and limitations, as well as the importance of internationalist interpretation in ensuring the universalism of human rights. The study emphasizes the strategic relevance of the IAHRS in defending and promoting fundamental rights in the Brazilian context.
