The conversationalist at Praça da Sé
Keywords:
Conversation, Injustice, Social equalityAbstract
The text recounts an episode in Praça da Sé in which the author, while interacting with a homeless person, discovers the value of conversation—not only as an act of kindness, but as a recognition of human dignity. It proposes that social titles (teacher, judge, lawyer) are irrelevant to real human interaction; what keeps us alive is being “conversationalists,” capable of dialogue without hierarchies. In the face of inequality and violence, justice is not established through sanctions or labels, but through mutual understanding, rapprochement, and listening in the public sphere, especially among those who have been historically marginalized.
