Public security from the victim’s perspective:
legitimation chall enges and recognition possibilities
Views: 30Keywords:
Victimology, Victim, Public Security, Security policies, RecognitionAbstract
The paper analyzes the position commonly occupied by the victim in scientific debates on public security, combining research from criminal sciences and social theory. It problematizes how victims and victims’ movements are instrumentalized by law-and-order political discourses, giving rise to the desubjectivation of those concretely affected by crime. Afterwards, it indicates alternative interpretations on the role such social actors could play, if regarded as empirical and morally relevant subjects. Recurring to systematic literature review as the main research strategy, the paper is expected to
contribute with new perspectives regarding the
victim’s inclusion in public security matters as a
recognized subject.
