Abstract

The article presents the synthesis of the seminar The various faces of violence, organized by IBCCrim to participate in the national debate on violence and fear in Brazilian society. The exposition starts from the understanding of violence and fear as social production and of the formation of a new subjectivity that naturalizes violent attitudes. The investigation gathers contributions from psychoanalysis, sociology, Law and popular experiences, addressing social inequality, the role of the media in stigmatizing the poor, violence in rural areas and community practices for the defense of human rights. The text concludes that legal professionals can assume a relevant role in the democratization of society.
