Abstract

The article presents the experience of legal assistance to popular movements developed by CDHEP of Campo Limpo, in São Paulo. The exposition starts from the observation that the population does not understand the functioning of the Judiciary nor the laws, and that professionals committed to the popular cause are lacking. The text describes the creation of the Legal Study Group and the Training Course for Popular Legal Advisors, with a diagnosis of reality, justification, general objective, development in three stages, ninety-six hours duration, methodology, and evaluation. The conclusion states that the exercise of citizenship is not obtained as a gift from the State, but through the population's struggle.
