Abstract

The text examines violence and the political and social crisis in Colombia, relating them to the country’s historical development, social marginalization and the expansion of drug trafficking. It critically analyses the failure of repressive policies and the insufficiency of criminal law as an instrument of social control, emphasizing its secondary role in relation to other forms of motivation and control. Finally, it proposes criminal policy alternatives based on prevention, the decriminalization of certain conduct, the control of more dangerous substances and social and economic development policies capable of addressing the structural causes of drug trafficking.
