Abstract

The text examines the famous Aida Cury trial, which took place in Rio de Janeiro in 1958, in which the schoolgirl was allegedly lured by Ronaldo Guilherme de Souza Castro and taken to the terrace of the Rio Nobre Building, where, refusing to have sexual relations, she was allegedly the victim of an attempted rape and thrown from the top of the building. It analyzes the campaign of defamation waged against judge Souza Neto, author of A mentira e o delinqüente and O motivo e o dolo, and the sentence of non-indictment, which also annulled the process regarding sexual crimes, since the victim's family's poverty was not proven. It concludes with the lesson of resistance of the magistrate, who faced public opinion pressure without yielding to fear.
