Tobias, Clarice, and the “punitive morphines”
beyond the common reading on the basis of the power to punish

Based on an analysis of certain biographical and bibliographical elements that connect Tobias Barreto and Clarice Lispector, we arrive at the intersections of their current relevance, the disturbing effect, and the epiphany of their writings. In addition to the plurality and intensity of the topics they explored, their observation of everyday issues, the precocity with which they formulated grandiose ideas and, above all, what is of interest in this article, their common approach to the right/power to punish reveal how much two turbulent and grandiose minds were able to contribute to literature and criminal law with equal intensity.
