Abstract

The article examines logic in criminal investigation, starting from the constitutional function of the Judiciary Police to investigate criminal offenses and from the understanding of investigation as a search for truth. The exposition analyzes the states of the human mind regarding knowledge, the types of evidence and the three forms of scientific reasoning, deduction, induction and abduction, in addition to intuition. The investigation adopts the methodology of theoretical and philosophical review, based on Malatesta, Peirce, Copi, Eco and Sebeok. The text relates logical methods to investigative practice and concludes that true investigation rests on the tripod of science, logic and legality, with the police inquiry as its formalized language.
