Abstract

The text examines traffic education in Brazil, highlighting its importance and difficulty, starting with its definition, and its condition as a legal obligation imposed on the Ministry of Education by art. 125 of the National Traffic Code, never effectively fulfilled. It analyzes the initiatives of DNER, mandatory educational campaigns, defensive driving courses and the contributions of companies and associations, criticizing the lack of continuity and the improvised character of these actions. It argues that traffic education must begin in childhood and continue at all stages of life, with adequate training of teachers and instructors, concluding that, while it is deficient, it is necessary to demand greater qualification from driving schools and refresher courses.
