Editorial Development Plan (EDP)

2027–2028 Biennium

1. General objectives

For the 2027–2028 biennium, the IBCCRIM Bulletin establishes the following short- and medium-term goals aimed at improving its scientific quality, editorial processes, and national and international reach.

2. Promotion of scientific production and dissemination

2.1 Contribute to the publication of research conducted by study groups, research groups, civil society organizations, and undergraduate and graduate programs.

2.2 Consolidate the Bulletin as a comprehensive, reliable, and qualified source for researchers through the publication of papers submitted to peer review, preferably under the double-blind peer review system.

2.3 Publish calls for papers and organize thematic dossiers aimed at fostering intellectual production on relevant and emerging topics in the field of criminal sciences.

2.4 Increase the thematic, regional, institutional, and authorship diversity of the published works.

3. Editorial quality, integrity, and transparency

3.1 Adopt and regularly update national and international standards concerning ethics, research integrity, and editorial transparency.

3.2 Improve the procedures for reviewing, selecting, editing, and publishing papers, ensuring clarity and predictability throughout all stages of the editorial workflow.

3.3 Periodically collect and publish statistical data on submissions, reviews, editorial decisions, and processing times in order to enhance the publication’s transparency.

3.4 Regularly update the guidelines for authors, reviewers, and editors, including guidance on authorship, conflicts of interest, plagiarism, retractions, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence tools.

4. Visibility, circulation, and internationalization

4.1 Encourage the publication of scientific articles relevant to the development and theoretical advancement of criminal sciences, particularly within the Brazilian and Latin American contexts.

4.2 Encourage submissions from international authors and expand international participation among the Bulletin’s authors and editorial team.

4.3 Seek the inclusion and continued presence of the Bulletin in directories, databases, indexing services, and national and international journal evaluation systems.

4.4 Assign and maintain persistent digital identifiers, particularly DOIs, for all published articles.

4.5 Organize in-person, online, or hybrid events, including events featuring authors, to disseminate published articles, promote debate, and broaden the reach of scientific production.

4.6 Strengthen the dissemination of the Bulletin and its contents through social media, academic institutions, universities, graduate programs, courts, civil society organizations, and other forums for the production and circulation of knowledge.

5. Digital infrastructure, preservation, and interoperability

5.1 Gradually implement XML markup for articles in accordance with the SciELO Publishing Schema, with the aim of standardizing content structure, promoting interoperability between systems, supporting digital preservation, and expanding indexing opportunities.

5.2 Improve the quality and standardization of article metadata, including information on authorship, institutional affiliation, ORCID, abstracts, keywords, references, and funding sources.

5.3 Maintain and improve metadata interoperability and dissemination protocols, particularly through OAI-PMH.

5.4 Adopt measures aimed at ensuring long-term digital preservation and permanent access to published content.

5.5 Expand digital accessibility features and ensure that content is properly displayed across different devices and formats.
