Democratic weakening and the judiciary
The complicity of judges in the rise of authoritarianism in Brazil

Jair Bolsonaro's rise to the presidency of Brazil represented a democratic setback, evidenced by the erosion of constitutional guarantees and the adoption of authoritarian practices. At the same time, the Brazilian judiciary, especially the magistracy, has distanced itself from its constitutional role, adopting positions that favor exclusion and the violation of rights. This trend is exemplified by the actions of figures such as Sérgio Moro, who, by aligning himself with political and media sectors, compromised judicial impartiality. Thus, there is a convergence between political authoritarianism and the weakening of legal institutions, threatening Brazilian democracy.
