The Brazilian progressive system and its contradictions: towards a critical reading of the prison law

The object of this article is the progressive system of penal execution in Brazil and its criticism from the normative confrontation with the concrete reality. The work addresses three central aspects of the progressive system in which it identifies contradictions between the declared and the real, to propose a critical reading of the progressive system of criminal enforcement. The disciplinary order as a hidden face of the hegemonic discourse on penal execution, the question of the “benefits” of the progressive system and its endemic delay are the points that allow us to build a critical reading of the law of criminal execution.
