The profile of those convicted of drug trafficking in the state of Mato Grosso

This article is the partial result of the research of judicial processes, through a questionnaire, whose condemnatory sentences for the practice of the crime of drug trafficking were prompunced between 01/01/2019 and 07/31/2019, aiming at the elaboration of an analysis qualitative and quantitative. 264 processes were examined, distributed in 52 districts of the State of Mato Grosso, with a total of 386 defendants, of which 338 were sentenced for the crime of drug trafficking within the time frame of the research. Our hypothesis is that the judiciary directly contributes to perpetuating stereotypes and criminal identification labels, deepening the social exclusion caused by racismo and poverty and confirming the total sucess of the prision, since it was created to not fulfill the promises it declares and – inasmuch as it does not fulfill – it attains is object.
