The review presents the work of Mario Chiavario, published by Cedam, in Padua, on criminal action between law and politics. The text starts from the observation that the foundation and exercise of the right of action have ceased to occupy the agenda of Brazilian proceduralists for more than twenty-five years, and examines the author's contribution regarding the control mechanisms for the non-filing of criminal action and the reexamination of the mandatory principle. The review also highlights the issue of the withdrawal of actions from the public context and their migration to the private sphere, recommending the reading of the work.
