This study analyzes the impact of overcompliance on the money laundering analysis of politically exposed persons (PEPs). Overcompliance refers to the adoption of control measures that exceed minimum regulatory requirements. These excessive measures can negatively affect the effectiveness of financial institutions in detecting illicit activities, including money laundering involving PEPs. The study highlights the importance of a balanced, risk-based approach to mitigating the negative effects of overcompliance.
