Abstract

This article uses the bibliographic review method, with special focus on the work of Cameroonian philosopher Achille Mbembe, in order to elucidate the intricate relationship between prison, colonialism and necropolitics, within the Brazilian experience. Therefore, we will demonstrate how the colonial punitive imaginary, far from being eluded by the arrival of Enlightenment ideas, actually coexisted and intensified in this encounter, which have generated a criminal necropolitics, closer to the field-form than to the panoptic discipline.
