Considerations about the future of criminology in Brazil

With the creation and development of higher education in criminology in Brazil, some reflections on the future of this field of knowledge emerge. This text does not aim to exhaust the topic but rather to bring important questions and reflections to the debate, which will likely come to light and need to be addressed as a result of the new undergraduate programs implemented in the country, such as the quality of education and the role played by professionals with a degree in criminology in society. To this end, the article seeks to present brief contemporary theoretical perspectives on criminology, explore the foundations of the first undergraduate program created in the country, discuss the professional prospects for criminology graduates in Brazil, and highlight relevant aspects that merit attention. Regarding the methodology employed, this is a narrative literature review study conducted in an unsystematic manner through the research of various sources, providing a synthesis of the literature on the topic accompanied by the authors' critical perspective.
