The international advance of cannabis regulation and the unjustifiable Brazilian backwardness

For 10 years the world has witnessed a huge transformation in terms of drug policy. Several countries and federative units have eased restrictions on the industrial, medicinal, and even recreational use of cannabis. This plant, which, for almost a hundred years, was internationally identified as one of the most dangerous drugs in the world, has become a lucrative and legal commodity, as well as a medicine with multiple uses. The American continent concentrates the largest number of these initiatives. Brazil, however, going against the grain of this process, refuses to advance in the regulation of this plant, keeping it illegal and feeding all the sociopolitical ills arising therefrom. This is an increasingly unjustifiable position from the point of view of the common good.
