Abstract

This article proposes to discuss the extent to which the principle of human dignity is carried out in the execution of the custodial sentence through the current redemption processes provided for in the Penal Execution Law. Through the deductive method, and the bibliographic and documentary research, the limits of the penal redemption institute and the need for human dignity to be the guide of penal execution will be analyzed, from the study of the project “Breathing freedom” running in homes penal institutions in the State of Pará. It was concluded that the term resocialization and the stiffening of the legislation in force have been the main obstacles to the expansion of ways to bring changes to life within the prison in order to achieve the individuality of each prisoner.
