The hegemonic punitive symbolic representations arise from the concrete historical conditions of a political community, being linked not only to its material conditions for the reproduction of social life, but also to its symbolic universes (mythical, religious, cultural) that guide specific social practices. Thus, the article analyzes, from a criminological perspective, how the articulation between media discourse and Operation Lava Jato contributed to the naturalization of the award-winning plea in the Brazilian criminal process and the conformation of the punitive imaginary.
