The editorial examines Decree nº 12.341/2024, which regulates police use of force in Brazil amidst increasing police lethality. Grounded in international treaties, it innovates by introducing monitoring mechanisms and the National Committee for Monitoring the Use of Force (CNMUDF). Despite political and police resistance, the decree marks progress, but its impact relies on structural reforms in the criminal justice system and public security policies.
