Law 14.843/2024 completely abolished temporary release for people serving time for heinous crimes or crimes involving violence or serious threats. In all other cases, it revoked the provision for temporary release to visit family, attend a regular course (not vocational) or higher education or take part in activities that contribute to returning to social life, i.e. the law consequently extinguished the very existence of the semi-open regime.
